Michael J. Patzakis, M.D. Endowed Lectureship Fund in Orthopaedics

February 2015

The Ohio State University Department of Orthopaedics is honored to be the recipient of a very generous endowment from Michael Patzakis, M.D., an OSU College of Medicine alum and distinguished orthopaedic surgeon and scholar. Dr. Patzakis and his wife Susan, a fellow OSU graduate, live in Los Angeles, where he retired after 21 ½ years as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California.

In addition to leading the largest orthopaedic department in the country, Dr. Patzakis has taught as visiting professor at 60 medical schools and hospitals, issued 65 research studies, authored 170 scientific papers, mentored more than 400 residents, and has received awards and honors from across the country and internationally for his impact on the profession.

The Patzakis family has committed to funding an endowment to our department in order to establish the Michael J. Patzakis, M.D. Endowed Lectureship Fund in Orthopaedics. The inaugural lectureship will take place the weekend of September 25 – 26, 2015 on the OSU Campus. Planning is currently underway for this inaugural lectureship, which is slated to be an educational event for alumni, residents, faculty, medical students, and community orthopaedists. More details will be forthcoming.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Patzakis family for their generous gift which will serve to further orthopaedic education at the Ohio State University.
